Common experience, as well as Scripture, teaches that ‘this infection of nature doth remain, yea, in them that are regenerated.[1]  In Baptism the benefits of Christ’s atonement begin to be applied to us, and no account is taken by God of this thing in us which is at enmity with God; so ‘there is no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus’.[2]  Baptismal regeneration does not involve a break with the innate proneness to evil; but it does mean our introduction to a new life in the Spirit in which we are equipped with power to strengthen us in the struggle which still goes on.[3]
